Linkedin and the creative copy

I was looking at my Linkedin profile, when an error occurred!

Nice, fresh and funny! That’s what a message should be for our users. The web is temporary unavailable, but we are suggested to visit their blog or learning center in the meantime. Just awesome!

So remember:

– Find a funny way to say to your user if you’re having any trouble on your website… he won’t be angry for that!

– Give him the opportunity to do something else… he will remain on your site!

What do you think about it?

Write right blogger!

Let’s admit it: a lot of blogger just post their thought without thinking about their readers.

I use to write my blog in English even though I am not an English native speaker. Yes, I make mistakes, but I always review my posts!

But what about the ones who write their own blog in their own language with a lot of mistakes?

Really, I do not understand why you do not correct your post or either have a look on the things you write to be sure that what you are going to post is correct. A lot of bloggers form today the Blogosphere and a lots of them are read each day by millions of readers/followers.

So why do not “write right” blogger?

EXAMPLES OF WORST PRACTICES

Here we go from the  Blog of Privalia Italia

1. Post of the 17th of May about Menorquinas (Menorcan sandals, or albarcas)

They are called Menorquinas, without the K! With a quick check on Google, anyone could have found the correct way to write it.

If you are familiar with the Italian language and read this post do not get scared about “della baleari“. However, they’re called Menorquinas because they come from the island of Menorca and not Formentera, as they wrote in the post.

2. Post of the 17th of May about the Festival de Cannes 2011

So..JHONNY DEEP: his surname is misspelled and his name too! BINGO!

The correct solution: Johnny Depp! I mean, any search engine can help us in knowing how to write it correctly.

Two posts on the same day, two big mistakes (let’s remain in the music world… remembering Natalie Imbruglia).

SO… PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!

Hey you over there, remember: you are a BLOGGER! You write each day posts, you expect your followers to comment it, to repost it and to share it with their friends. Maybe your followers are expecting something from you: take care about the things you write.

I am not judging these blogs. I just want to make the point on a basic element: if you are working with words, pay attention on how you write or use them. Search on the web before posting something if you are not sure about a topic or if you are not familiar with it.

We own something to our followers. They will get tired, soon or later, of all the mistakes we write each day.

It is true that it is important to deliver a message, but do not forget the envelope.

Aretha Franklin sang “Do right woman, do right man“. Now I say loud to the Blogosphere

Write it right blogger

Format, style, font of your content

Write good content is not just about writing, a non sense maybe!

I know, I use to repeat this sentence, but actually this is the truth. Content is not just about words! It is also about style, format and the font. These elements will reflect your identity. Content is the dress for your message and your company in front of your audience and competitors.

First of all, bear always in mind:

  • Headlines and subheadings help your audience to find the information they’re looking for;

  • Breadcrumbs are a good guide for your audience in your website;

  • Use bullet points for a list;

  • One call to action per page will give to your audience the sensation to do what they really want to.

The font define the style

Be careful in the choice of the correct font. As I said in a previous post Verdana and Tahoma are an example of clear fonts. Your user can get tired reading an unreadable font.

Keep your typography consistent. Use the same fonts throughout your website. Always think that what is clear for you, may not be for your users. We don’t need to have a wonderful font if the same is not helpful for our audience.

12 pixel is quite right for a clear text! Just think that nowadays our users have smartphones, laptop, pc of different kinds! We should be able to reach our target in every direction.

Content format

When do you write an email, a text for your web or a landing page, do you always think about the format that you will give to your text?

Well, if your answer is no, you should begin as soon as possible. You need to have an idea on how your content will fit.

Let your text breathe, give it space. It will allow an easier reading to your users;

Find the best outfit for your content.

Write for Google and for Facebook

All editors, web writers, content managers and content strategists use what they learned at the University in their daily work.

Nowadays this is not enough.  We are living in the cyber age, we all have to consider our positioning on Google and other search tools.

This is not just about writing, but writing for our company, for Google and for Facebook.

Twitter represents another case because its 140 characters have to include the message, the source, the hash tags and the space for a RT. A new way of writing: simple, clear and direct to the point!

Google is still the first traffic conductor for all the news, even if Twitter and Facebook are the new protagonists in this sector. All the digital writers will have to learn basics info about SMO (Social Media Optimization).

Google’s traffic is based on algorithms and formulas to select news. On the social side, what is produced is what the users highlight in the interest of their contacts.

Google will now separate in its researches – thanks to its new algorithm – the high quality websites from the bad ones. For this goal we have to implement a Content Marketing Plan in our strategy, believing that a good content strategy is the best way to get to our users.

Content deserves its role; we all have to recognize/admit it.

RTs and “I like” will maybe rewrite the content’s history. There is a lot to do before getting there.

The problem?

A lot of companies understood it and they are trying to deal with it, but others are not still seeing its importance.

Is content just about text?

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I had a strange impression these last days when I was reading a lot of stuff about content.

But do we know what are we talking about? I’ll try to be more specific!

Content is everything you create to reach to your customers. It’s not just about text, this  is just a part of it!

What about videos, audio files, graphics and images? Are they or are they not a way to reflect who we are, what we deliver? In other words, they represent our identity

Most of the time, a video will explain better – and without the need of more words – what we want to communicate. As per a stat, consumers are more up to watch a video than read an even clear and focused text.  This is what Vente privée does all the time and in the best way they can. It doesn’t matter if they publish a video or an image, write an email, etc. They always do their own way. That’s what assure them a unique identity and the success all over these years.

Now, let’s get focused on the results this video reached.

What do you understand from this video? What can you feel about the company?

Your answer will be aligned to their philosophy and to the experience you will have being their customer. You just want to purchase, because of a simple video. Well done!

All these supports can help us in building our identity, deliver cool content and make the difference. It’s all in our hands and in our content strategy.
